The BBP is inviting major corporate occupiers to collaborate with them in a ground-breaking new owner-occupier forum on sustainability issues.
Initiated as part of the BBP's Climate Commitment published earlier this year, this Forum will seek to bring together senior real-estate decision makers to collaborate with the objective of delivering net zero carbon buildings by 2050.
The BBP’s Climate commitment, signed by 24 CEOs and CIOs and covering over £300bn of Assets Under Management (AUM) acknowledged that with as much as 70% of a buildings’ emissions attributable to occupiers activities their commitment to tackle climate change cannot be delivered without closer collaboration.
One of the greatest challenges in achieving net zero carbon buildings lies in the relationship between owners and occupiers; whilst they have zero carbon targets in common, a series of institutional, technical & legal barriers have made progress challenging. The owner-occupier forum will enable owners and occupiers to tackle these barriers by creating strategic alliances, and share knowledge to scale up action across portfolios. The BBP is collaborating with several major stakeholder bodies to encourage occupier participation in the Forum including: The Climate Group, the Hospitality Carbon Reduction Forum, CoreNet Global UK Chapter and the Innovation Gateway.

The Hospitality Sector Carbon Reduction Forum
The forum is an industry body established for hospitality companies to develop and implement a roadmap to net zero carbon emissions. Quarterly meetings enable members to share practical measures to reduce carbon emissions from energy, waste and water consumption. The group focuses on both the behavioural and structural changes that are necessary to bring about improved performance and an annual benchmark helps members create an action plan to reduce emissions.
