16 January 2025The Better Buildings Partnership (BBP) is proud to announce the launch of its 2030 Vision, a bold call to action for the commercial property sector to lead, and accelerate, the sustainable transformation of the industry over the next five years.
The Vision was co-created with the BBP Board and its members, who recognise the need for urgent action to tackle the sector's most pressing challenges in this pivotal decade. The Vision outlines clear priorities for the sector - delivering actionable solutions, upscaling sustainable practices across portfolios, and collaborating with stakeholders to drive industry-wide transformation.
Focusing on where and how it is best placed to contribute, the BBP has committed to leveraging its practical tools and industry leadership, seeking to amplify the impact of its projects and tools, embed best practice in decision-making and skills, and pioneer innovative solutions to emerging challenges.
Through the lens of commercial property ownership and covering impacts ranging from energy efficiency and climate resilience to circularity and nature, the Vision acknowledges the fast evolving and expanding range of challenges and opportunities that commercial property owners face.
The BBP will be building upon the close and unique relationship with its members to further mobilise this hugely valuable network of organisations and individuals. Using their collective power to demonstrate leadership and embed sustainability at the heart of the industry will be vital in order to deliver on these objectives.
At its core, the 2030 Vision highlights the importance of collaboration, with a clear challenge to the sector to work together to accelerate change and upscale impact for the benefit of the whole industry.
The BBP invites all stakeholders, including its members and industry partners to use the 2030 Vision as a tool to guide change, ensuring that better buildings realise their potential to attract investment, occupiers & talent into the sector and create resilient communities that support environmental, social and economic prosperity.

Sarah Ratcliffe, Chief Executive Officer of the Better Buildings Partnership, said: “With just five years remaining of this crucial decade, the release of our 2030 Vision calls for urgent and collaborative action. Together, we must act decisively to drive the sustainable transformation of commercial buildings. We hope that this vision serves as a catalyst for collective progress and innovation, and that it reflects the BBP’s unwavering commitment to delivering practical solutions that drive real impact in the sector.”
Janine Cole, Sustainability and Social Impact Director, GPE and Chair of the Better Buildings Partnership, said: “It is heartening to see, through this 2030 Vision, the BBP doubling down on its efforts to amplify its impact, strengthening its role in upskilling the market and embracing the need for innovation to support the UK built environment sector as it looks to address the rapidly growing urgency of the climate crisis."
James Manning, London Estate Strategy and Performance Lead at Grosvenor Group and Deputy Chair of the Better Buildings Partnership, said: “The sustainable transformation of commercial real estate will require us to be pioneering and keep our fingers on the pulse of new and emerging topics. We look forward to working with members and industry partners to deepen our knowledge of key topics such as circularity, place making and social impact. Through being open to new ideas and receiving feedback, we will remain relevant and forward thinking”.
Jane Wakiwaka, Head of Sustainability at REM and Board Member of the Better Buildings Partnership, said: “To collectively deliver against the BBP’s vision, embedding sustainability across the property lifecycle is vital. BBP’s toolkits and guidance will continue to raise the bar on industry standards and to drive the transformation needed to integrate sustainability as part of core-decision-making by property owners.”
Shuen Chan, Head of Responsible Investment & Sustainability, Private Markets at LGIM and Board Member of the Better Buildings Partnership, said: “Looking ahead to 2030, the industry needs to accelerate its efforts to achieve the sustainable transformation of commercial real estate. As an experienced investor in real estate, infrastructure, and in the climate transition, we recognise that this is both an operational imperative and an investment opportunity. By upscaling efforts to embed sustainability throughout the life cycle – not only in investment, but also across all areas of the industry – we can collectively reduce carbon emissions, drive value, and deliver a more resilient built environment.”
Harry Stokes, Commercial Finance Director at SEGRO and Board Member of the Better Buildings Partnership, said: “Amplifying the sustainability efforts undertaken by BBP members is an important way of extending our reach and impact. Through sharing our insights and our collaboratively designed, pragmatic and workable tools beyond our members, we are able to drive even more positive change to the industry at large”.
