IM Properties Joins Better Buildings Partnership

09 August 2022

IM Properties is continuing its journey towards a more sustainable future, joining the Better Buildings Partnership (BBP).

BBP is a not-for-profit organisation and a collaboration of the UK’s leading commercial property owners who are working together to improve the sustainability of existing commercial stock.

John Hammond investment director at IM Properties said:

BBP provides a centre of excellence and invaluable resource for navigating the best route forward for our existing and future investment stock as we work towards becoming a net zero business.

“We’re acutely aware of the real difference we can make through choosing more sustainable options for the asset management of our commercial buildings, however understanding, and arriving at the correct framework can be challenging.

“Through BBP’s sharing of knowledge & innovations and guidance on best practice across the industry, we can ensure we make the decisions that are right for the business and the planet now, and in the future.”

John continued: “We’re particularly excited by and interested in the positive transformation we can achieve by embedding sustainable thinking into the behaviour of a building’s occupiers. “Our asset directors and managers have already been working hard to look at ways to implement this across our portfolio through use of smart technology and occupier engagement strategies to promote renewable technologies, reduce energy consumption and encourage greener transport options.

“Bourn, our latest office refurbishment in Coventry, is promoting a more circular economy through the regeneration of existing stock and is adopting an innovative approach from the start, looking to attract occupiers who share our values to create a socially and environmentally responsibly managed environment. “It’s a cultural shift for many which we are already embracing as a company and as individuals and we believe it is an important ambition we need to deliver for future generations.”

IM Properties has been working over the past two years to develop ‘Sustainable Futures’ a long-term strategy for 2030 and beyond, which will ensure sustainability is incorporated into everything that it does.

The new strategy sets out several short and long-term targets under People, Planet & Place to create a pathway to net zero and ensure the company has a positive impact beyond the boundaries of its developments to create long term, positive social and economic value.

John added: “Only through working in partnership with our peers, supply chain and stakeholders will we be able to achieve our ambitious targets and BPP provides a positive step towards ensuring we’re all moving forward in the right direction.”
