22 January 2016Capita Real Estate, a member of the BBP's Managing Agents Partnership, have launched the second edition of their Sustainable Property Management Guide. The Guide summarises the processes in place to ensure that all property management functions are carried out in line with legal requirements and promotes best practice strategies to exceed these and continually improve their environmental performance.
The 2016 edition has been updated to include new and forthcoming legislation that impacts the real estate investment sector, such as the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards, with guidance on how their clients can prepare for the impact of such regulations in advance.
They have also improved advice and tools promoting energy efficiency, including a checklist, and assisting their colleagues to manage risks and hazards from flooding to pseudomonas.
Who is the guide for? The guide is intended as a first point reference for all staff involved in the management of sites and buildings, to understand their environmental responsibilities and the ways in which these shall be improved, monitored and managed. For Capita's clients it provides useful links to internal and external resources and specialist services that can assist with sustainable property management.
The guide is supplemented by a Sustainability Questionnaire, which enables them to monitor the performance of properties under management and establish initiatives for improvement.
Sarah Ratcliffe, Programme Director at the Better Buildings Partnership, commented “ We very much welcome this timely update to Capita’s Sustainable Property Management Guide. We have seen significant changes in the drivers for sustainable real estate since the original version was published, not least the introduction of Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) and the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS). It is clear that sustainability is no longer an optional extra for many landlords and this comprehensive guide will enable Capita’s property management professionals to respond to their requirements and help them derive value from the sustainable management of their real estate assets.”
